A B & the Sea
Long time friends Koley O'Brien and Joe Spargur founded A B & The Sea January 1st, 2008--not only marking the start of a new year, but a new journey. They packed up their van, waved goodbye to Wisconsin and started making their way to California. After going through a line-up change, A B & The Sea was made complete again with the addition of drummer Troy Lawton, bass player Zak LaVigne and David Hunt on keys. While they're new to San Francisco, the boys have shared the stage with such notable acts as: Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Tokyo Police Club, Best Coast, The Morning Benders, Freelance Whales, Avi Buffalo, fun. and more. Drawing comparisons to a modern day Beach Boys meets The Beatles, A B & The Sea's beachy, carefree vibes have landed them gigs at many prominent SF venues such as The Independent, Slims, Bimbos, Rickshaw Stop Bottom of the Hill as well as extensive touring.
A B & The Sea quickly captured the attention of Chris Chu (The Morning Benders) and Eric Frederic (Wallpaper) and recorded their debut 'Boys & Girls' EP at legendary Different Fur Studio in San Francisco. The EP was released to critical acclaim and was declared one of Metromix's top 20 albums of 2010.
January 25th, 2011 marks the release date for the bands follow up EP titled 'RUN RUN RUN' and once again recorded at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco. For this new EP the band called in production from Jim Fairchild (Modest Mouse / Grandaddy) and once again Chris Chu (The Morning Benders). A B & The Sea will be bringing these sounds to a town near you in 2011 as this is only the beginning.
